So today the Scharff family experienced our first Dragon Boat racing event. This particular event was a city wide fundraiser for TC Thompson Children's Hospital and had hundreds of locals showing up for the fun.
Now for those who don't know what a dragon boat race is, I want to relieve your fears. There were no dragons, just really long boats. Each boat holds 12 paddlers and a dude in the front banging a drum (yes I did say banging a drum). The paddlers then try to use that beat to set the boats "rhythm" for optimal performance. Now while this might sound like just paddling a big canoe I can say that it didn't look quite as simple as that. There is definitely a need for teamwork and unity in this.
As for the roles that Robin, Wade and I played, we watched and ate a lot of food. Somebody needed to step up in these roles and we brought our A-Game. We were there cheering David's (my brother) team from the office he works in. They didn't do so well in their first race, but made tremendous improvements the second time and just missed qualifying for the finals.
All in all we had another great day outside and were thankful for the great weather.
